Back in France
26/07/2010
Hi,
I'm now back in France, it is pretty sad to leave Australia after 4 great years over there, and it is also sad to leave my friend the Lavatones (www.myspace.com/thelavatones), but c'est la vie!
At least, this is a good occasion to go back on some of my French projects, such as Vertigo Observer (http://www.myspace.com/vertigoobserver)
Fortunately just before leaving Melbourne & Australia, I had the chance to work in April one last time with the great Cameron McKenzie (Mark Seymour, The Drones, Belle Roscoe, etc etc).
During my stay in Australia between 2006 & 2010, I first worked with Cameron on the "Maybe One Day" CD self produced in 2008 (see http://www.timchesley.com/page-musique-english.html) and then back on other material in 2009.
Just before leaving Australia in May, I wanted to work with Cameron McKenzie one last time, because I wanted him to remix with his "savoir-faire" the songs I had recorded in Paris in 2006 just before coming to Australia (the ones on the 12 track CD simply entitled "Tim Chesley")
As a result, some songs were only remixed but some other songs were started again from scratch, resulting in a totally different version than the one recorded in 2006, such as "Sans Histoires" for eg.
I will be happy to upload the rest of my works with Cam on this website in a close future.
Other news, my friend Nick Ross and his teammates have created an original concept and website (http://www.mudboard.com/), and here I will let Nick directly introduce the idea behind MUDBOARD: "There’s a real creative buzz starting on Mudboard at the moment: Music, photography, graphic art, poetry, short stories, lyrics, short films, and animation...just some of the wonderful creativity that has been uploaded so far. People have responded by saying things like “I’m very interested in being a part of this amazing website” and “I admire your great work for improving creativity and originality”.
Go and have a look - maybe you could help promote originality and creativity to the world, and inspire it, by uploading some of your creations to Mudboard, and then spreading the word around to friends, associates, creators, watchers, readers, and those famous people that apparently are only 6 degrees away. It’s quick and
easy to do.
Nick ROSS, July 2010"
Cheers.

Farewell to Australia gig - April 13
15/03/2010
Hi everyone,
as we say in French, "toutes bonnes choses ont une fin",
and with Ai my beautiful spouse it is now almost certain that we will be leaving Australia in May to go back to live in France normally.
As there is no question I am going to leave this country without saying farewell to my beautiful friends here, I thought the best way to say goodbye would be one last farewell gig.
Please join me on Tuesday the 13th of April from 7pm onwards at the Niche Cafe, 73 Smith Street in Fitzroy, tel 9416 3439
It will be an exciting night where I should play a little set (my first solo gig in more than one year) from 7.30pm onwards.
Then around 9pm I will be joined on stage by The Lava Tones, the band I formed recently with Mark Fitzo (GB) on the guitar, vocals & incredible songwriting and Dave "The Professor" Lindsay (AU) on Sax.
There should be other surprises during that night: especially some of the latest musical works from Tim Chesley & The Lava Tones should be available on some CDs available that night
Truly an event not to miss
So, to sum up:
"Tim Chesley & The Lava Tones - farewell gig
Tuesday April 13th from 7pm onwards at the Niche Cafe, 73 Smith Street, Fitzroy, tel 9416 3439
Tim Chesley on stage from 7.30pm
The Lava Tones on stage from 9pm"
See you there guys, and please don't hesitate to get back to me to let me know if you're thinking of attending or not.
Cheers,
Tim de la Chapelle (stage name: Tim Chesley)
All my songs available for listen/download
11/01/2010
Hi guys,
Some people will say it's a stupid idea, but f#$% it I don't care, I have decided to put on my website www.timchesley.com all of my songs available for listen AND download.
This especially concerns my last two self produced albums, "Tim Chesley" (2006) and "Dreaming is the Way" (2008).
Before for these 2 albums only a handful of songs were available, now all of them, so please don't hesitate to visit my website (http://www.timchesley.com/page-musique-english.html) to download these tracks or the whole album, and then spread the music…
Cheers, Tim
New Band, THE LAVA TONES!
2/09/2009
Hi,
Since a few months I've been part of an exciting new musical project that has been taking form, and now has a name: THE LAVA TONES!
The Lava Tones are comprised of guitarist vocalist songwriter Fitzo (from London), Dave Lindsay "The Teacher" (from Melbourne) on the saxophone/harmonica and I (from Paris/USA...) play the bass + sometimes xylophone/melodica + anything I could put into my hands...
It's a project of 3 friends, who like to get together in order to have a good time around a few good beers and glasses of wine, and yeah why not, play some music together...
The result, largely crafted around Fitzo's great skills at songwriting, is a curious & magical blend of pop, jazz, alt country, bossanova, you name it...
Band bookers, looking for a curious entertaining eccentric easy listening band???: please don't hesitate to book us for any gigs around Melbourne, or include us in a line-up
Bookings from November onwards.
Please check out our MySpace page (www.myspace.com/thelavatones) for more information and to have a listen to our songs.
EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!!
The Lava Tones first major gig at the Gertrudes Brown Couch (30 Gertrudes Street, Fitzroy) on Wednesday 11th of November!
The Lava Tones (Mark Fitzpatrick, David Lindsay, Tim Chesley) will be revealing their beautifully crafted songs and their unique blending sound.
An event not to miss.
Support act: Emily Brown from 8pm; The Lava Tones from 9pm, $5 doorcharge

New Works in 2009
10/06/2009
Hi guys,
I have been very busy these last weeks, and unfortunately I haven't got a lot of time for the music, which is simply very painful to me...
However, I was lucky enough to book one recording day with Cameron McKenzie who produced my "Dreaming is the Way" EP in 2008.
Cam is a great muso, guitar player, engineer & producer, actually on tour in Canada with Mark Seymour (Hunters & Collectors)
That day Graham Thwaites came to play some drums on a revisited & adventurous version of "Maybe one Day", the highlight already of the 2008 session with Cam.
The other track we worked on is "Dusk", an instrumental piano based song, inspired by a recent trip to Marysville in Victoria.
Marysville is one of the towns totally wiped out by the bush fires which ocurred in Victoria lately, especially during "black saturday" last February.
We recently visited Marysville after the bush fires, arriving at dusk in this desolated little town lost in the middle of the forest, and it was such a sad & unreal vision that I decided to express my feelings in this instrumental track called "Dusk".
I hope you enjoy the songs, they can be found, played & downloaded on the MUSIC page of the website.
Cheers !

Broken Leg and New Old Song
28/04/2009
HELLO HELLO,
The start of this year has been a little bit painful for me, I broke my leg at indoor soccer, and had to walk with crutches during two months.
And I've put aside any idea of gigs or anything.
But meanwhile I've been listening to some old stuff, some old recordings, and I thought I'd put on the website a new track "Mesdemoiselles", which is actually a new old song, since it was recorded back in 2004 in Taverny (Paris, France) where I worked with Alain Parmentier on a few songs, such as "Alcool" too.
I hope you enjoy it, it has an interesting violin part played by a tzigane player if I recall, and great lyrics by my French Cousin Cyrille Latour (and my other cousin Matthieu Latour was playing the drums).
It's an old song back out there, but it's always nice to have something new to put on the website
The songs can be found under the MUSIC page of the website under the unreleased tracks in 2003-2004.
Hope you enjoy, catch you soon.
Cheers !
Tim
VERTIGO OBSERVER
26/02/09
Hi folks,
Today is history: I have been working since 2004 on a relaxed side-project called VERTIGO OBSERVER with my friend and great musicien Noxize, aka Flesh is the Fever, from Paris.
He is more a techno, drum & bass oriented, I am more a pop/prog rock freak, but we have learned to work together and enjoyed confronting our different musical universes.
The result is VERTIGO OBSERVER, which is a colourful patchwork of these influences, melodic, beat & hypnotic catchy experimentations which we hope you will appreciate.
The reason why it took us 4 years to write 4 songs (that's what I call productive...) is partly due to the distance, Noxize being in Paris while I am here in Melbourne, Australia.
That's why I consider these 4 tracks real little gems considering these difficult conditions.
So please enjoy at www.myspace.com/vertigoobserver.
Cheers !

Working on a New Demo CD 5 tracks
29/05/08
Hi everyone,
It has been a long time I haven’t given any news.
I haven’t been giving any gigs lately, for the good reason that I have decided to concentrate my musical endeavors in recording (in June) a short Demo CD 5 tracks which I hope will reflect the sound I have in concert, which is basically the acoustic guitar + some effects and my voice. I will be helped here (in Melbourne) in this task by Cameron McKenzie who is a great musician & a great sound engineer with a great sound (Horsehead, Mark Seymour – Hunters & Collectors, The Androids, Belle Roscoe).
Another news is that I’m now a member of BMI, which is a US based P.R.O. (Performance Rights Organization)
And finally, I was doing some archiving lately and found what I believe are some interesting first takes of 2 songs which can be found on my 12 track CD self-recorded CD “Tim Chesley” (2006).
Please find below a link to listen to these songs (“Croire au Bonheur – 2003”, mixed by Alain Parmentier + “Newport – 2003” recently mixed by Thibaud Guichardan), I would be interested in getting your comments if any!
Croire au Bonheur - 2003
Newport - 2003

Meeting David Bridie & other news
24/11/06
Hi Everyone,
I hope you’re all doing fine.
First of all, I wanted to share with you some great news : last Sunday, November 19, I went to a gig at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne, and on that occasion I had the great honor to meet one of the greatest musicians here in Australia : David Bridie.
You can see on the “MUSIQUE” page of my website that this guy is on the list of my main musical influences, and I strongly recommend you to check his stuff.
I also had the chance to meet some over very interesting musicians here in Melbourne:
- Ken Murray, who teaches the guitar at the University of Melbourne
- Daniel Gassin, a jazz pianist
- Shivantha, a great musician from Sri Lanka, who’s in the process of making a CD.
Hey guys, I am not Madonna, so I’m still counting on you to do some great publicity about my music, and to buy my CD’s.
I’ve added a link on my website where you can order my CD’s by directly sending an email to me, so please don’t hesitate (for the moment the English version of Paypal is not effective).
One last thing, I am trying to help an artist from Congo, who’s trying to get out of his country and play some music in one of these following countries:
Malta,Turkey, Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, UK, Ireland, Belgium, Malaisia, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Dubai, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia.
In order to go in one of these countries, he needs a round trip plane ticket + a legal invitation.
OK that’s all folks ! Cheers.
Tim
